George Floyd's death was "caused by a heart attack" according to the Hennepin County report, despite an independent inquiry launched by George's family which reveals he died after his body was deprived of oxygen
George Floyd died from a heart attack and had fentanyl in his system, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, despite an independent inquiry ordered by his family which said the policeman putting a knee on his neck "caused death".

The medical examiner's findings revealed Mr Floyd died from cardiopulmonary arrest which made the cop's restraint more lethal.
Their report also states the heart attack occurred while George was being "restrained by law enforcement" – which means efforts to arrest him were made more complicated.

Additionally, the report adds George had fentanyl in his system as well as traces of methamphetamine, reports TMZ.

His death was concluded as a homicide.
However, an autopsy ordered by the family of George Floyd found he was killed by depriving the body of oxygen that was caused by “neck and back compression that led to a lack of blood flow to the brain”.

Lawyer Ben Crump and co-counsel Antonio Romanucci, who represented the Floyd family, announced the findings of the autopsy on Monday afternoon.

The family’s legal team hired Dr Michael Baden and Dr Allecia Wilson to carry out the independent autopsy following Mr Floyrd’s death last week.
Pathologists said the ongoing pressure applied to Mr Floyd’s neck by officer Derek Chauvin stopped blood flow to his brain.

The weight that was put onto Mr Floyd’s back also hampered his ability to breathe.

It was also ruled that the death was mechanical asphyxia and was similar in manner of a homicide.

Crump said: “George died because he needed a breath. I implore all of us to take a breath for justice, to take a breath for peace, to take a breath for our country and to take a breath for George.”

After being pinned to the ground by police, Mr Floyd, 46, died in police custody.
In the minutes leading up to his death, Mr Floyd said: “I can’t breathe.”

The findings of the family’s autopsy differ from the one taken the day after Mr Floyd’s death that concluded there was “no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation”.

They also differ from the Hennepin Country medical examiner's report that he died from a heart attack during the arrest.
